2 discount retailers are closing stores – find out about locations & final sales

American department store chain TJ Maxx has announced it will be closing some of its stores at key locations in major cities.

The brand, selling clothing and other items at prices generally lower than other major similar stores, has more than 1,000 stores in the United States, making it one of the largest clothing retailers in the country. TJ Maxx is the flagship chain of the TJX Companies, a department store corporation with major brands as subsidiaries, including Marshalls, HomeGoods, HomeSense, and TK Maxx in the UK.

The stores sell men’s, women’s and children’s apparel, as well as shoes, toys, bath and beauty products, accessories, jewelry, and home products ranging from furniture and decor to housewares and kitchen utensils. TJ Maxx and Marshalls specifically, operate as sister stores sharing a similar footprint throughout the country.

Their prices are nearly identical and they have similar store layouts. However, Marshalls has a more upscale appearance than TJ Maxx and typically sells a larger range of fine jewelry and accessories. Some higher-volume stores have a high-end designer department called The Runway.

In early October, the company closed a location in St. Paul, Minnesota. A store employee reportedly told the US Sun at the time that during the liquidation sale at the shop, customers had access to up to 20% discount.

TJ Maxx spokesperson Monica Crocetti said in a statement: “We are always assessing and reviewing our real estate strategies, and our decision to close this store reflects that thinking. We are grateful for the loyalty of our Chicago customers and invite them to visit our nearby stores to continue to find great values.”
