Vancouver gets its own rain boot thanks to Canada Goose

The product: Canada Goose Vancouver Rain Boot.

Why we love it: A rain boot seems about as fitting a footwear style for Vancouver as there could ever be. After all, it’s not called Raincouver for nothing as the city gets an estimated 146 cm of rain per year.

It seems perfectly fitting then that Canadian brand Canada Goose would name its new puddle-stomping footwear style the Vancouver Rain Boot. Billed as being both tactical and trend-savvy, the waterproof style comes in three colours: black, off-white, and an icy shade of blue.

Featuring a thick rubber sole — which the brand assures is lightweight despite the height — the style also features two footbed options to suit the wearer’s needs, and the weather. A space shell footbed offers moisture wicking and breathability for warmer temps while a shearling lining offers a cosy feel in the cold.

The new Vancouver Rain Boot joins an evolving selection of footwear styles for men and women from the Toronto-headquartered brand, which specializes in luxury outerwear, such as parkas and puffer jackets. The new shoe release comes on the heels of another big announcement from Canada Goose as the company recently appointed Colombian-born, French fashion designer Haider Ackermann as the brand’s first creative director.

The company says  that in an effort to elevate the brand’s creative esthetic, Ackermann will work alongside CEO and chairman, Dani Reiss. In celebration of the new post, Ackerman and Canada Goose released a limited-edition hooded sweatshirt in support of Polar Bears International (PBI). Dubbed the PBI Hoodie, the organic cotton styled $295 sweater will have 100 per cent of all proceeds going to the non-profit organization to help fun research and innovation for protection of the Arctic. Supported in the campaign by longtime activist and actor Jane Fonda, the hoodie is sold out.
