Anjali Borkhataria: Tanzanian participates in Pop-up Show in France

PARIS, France: Anjali Borkhataria has become the first Tanzanian to participate in the prestigious ‘pop-up’ show organized by Galeries Lafayette in France. The major pop-up event, held from June 25 to July 1 this year, involved six designers from different countries: Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Togo, Morocco, and Tanzania.

In an interview with Daily News Digital, the designer said that participants were selected based on the unique taste of their work.

“The pop-up is more than a sales event; it is a platform to celebrate our motherland, Africa, and introduce the world to the talent and creativity that exists within our borders. It provides a unique opportunity for customers to buy authentic quality African designs that are not only beautiful but also tell the story of our heritage and craftsmanship,” Anjali said.

According to the designer, the pop-up highlighted the unique styles and craftsmanship of each designer, offering visitors a chance to experience and purchase authentic African designs.

“It was more than just a sales event; it was a cultural exchange, bringing the vibrancy of African fashion to one of the most prestigious department stores in Europe,” she stated

Ms. Anjali said that the main aim of the show was to support local designers and grow the influence of African fashion in the international market. “But the cultural exchange at the event was also vital and brought about an excitement within the designer, decorating the whole event,” she added.

Anjali Borkhataria is the founder and Creative Director of EKANTIK, an institution established in 2018 with the aim of telling the untold story of Africa to help bridge the gap between Western and African cultures through art and design.

Recounting her successes in the career of designing, Anjali noted that among the famous artists who have worn her designs are Diamond Platnumz, Mbosso, Tanasha Dona, and Koffi Olomide.

The designer has been featured in Forbes Africa and had an interview with BBC London.
