The Shows: Milan Fashion Week discloses its calendar. Sales drop 3.5%, export plus 5.5%

Milano Fashion Week Women’s Collection, scheduled for September 17-23, 2024, unveiled the calendar for the upcoming edition that will host 173 appointments of which 57 physical catwalk shows and eight digital fashion shows, 69 presentations, six presentations by appointment and 33 events.

For the first time they will hold runway shows by Susan Fang supported by Dolce&Gabbana, Federico Cina, Chiccomao and Phan Dang Hoang, already featured in the digital calendar. Returning to the calendar are The Attico and Laura Biagiotti fashion shows, as well as digital shows by Defaïence By Nicola Bacchilega and Francesco Murano.

Differently, the Giorgio Armani show will not take place as it will participate in New York Fashion Week, along with MSGM and Tom Ford (only presenting a presentation), Blumarine, waiting for its newly named creative director Damir Doma.

This edition will see the celebration of important anniversaries, including Iceberg’s 50th anniversary, which will present a Co-Ed fashion show, interpreted by Creative Director James Long, which will be followed by a celebratory party designed to retrace the key moments that have made the brand’s history over these five decades.

Laura Biagiotti will also celebrate 50 years since the brand’s first fashion show, while Redemption will celebrate 10 years since its inception.

On the first day, Tuesday, Sept. 17, from 12 noon to 3PM there will be the opening event of the Fashion Hub set up at Palazzo Giureconsulti that will kick off the week.

On the same day at 8PM at the Sala Cariatidi of Palazzo Reale will be held the 10th edition of Milano Moda Graduate, an initiative aimed at students from leading Italian fashion schools. This will be followed at 9PM at the Palazzo della Regione by the second edition of the awards ceremony for the Premio Maestri D’eccellenza, created by LVMH, Loro Piana, Confartigianato Imprese and Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana and aimed at Italy’s most talented artisans.

On Sept. 20, the second edition of the Black Carpet Awards, an event organized by Afro Fashion Association to celebrate Leaders of Change who promote diversity and inclusion in fashion, design, art, culinary arts, music, technology, business, sports and film, will be held at Teatro Manzoni.

On September 22, the CNMI Sustainable Fashion Awards 2024 event will take place, produced by Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, in collaboration with Ethical Fashion Initiative (EFI) of the United Nations ITC Agency and with the support of the City of Milan.

The awards ceremony will be held at Teatro alla Scala in Milan on September 22, at the close of Milan Fashion Week. The ten awards will include The Ellen MacArthur Foundation Award for Circular Economy.

From September 17 to 22 during Milan Fashion Week, the Fashion Hub of Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana will be set up again for this edition at Palazzo Giureconsulti.

During the fashion week, the hub, open to the public, will be hosting young brands and emerging designers. The Fashion Hub will become a center of experimentation focusing on innovation, craftsmanship, sustainability, education and internationalization, with a special focus on Korea and China.

Also completing the fashion week calendar will be a calendar in which showrooms can indicate sales campaign dates and contacts so that appointments can be made. This working tool will be useful for Italian and international buyers to be able to facilitate their agenda, which will be disseminated through Camera della Moda Italiana channels.

The Italian fashion industry recorded a turnover of more than €100 billion in 2023, but expects to record a 3.5% decline by the end of 2024 with a turnover of €97.7 billion. Despite this, exports are expected to increase from €81.6 billion in 2023 to €93.7 billion, or +5.5%.

“The Milan Fashion Week calendar responds with creativity and pragmatism to the historical moment we are living, ours is a system of excellence with deep roots in tradition and a vital tension towards innovation,” said Carlo Capasa, President Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana.

“The international audience, which always follows the event with attention and passion, will find the big names of Italian fashion, many new brands for the first time on the calendar, and many presentations within the Fashion Hub of Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, which continues the path of collaboration with international institutions and realities, reaffirming the attractive role of Milan as the capital of fashion,” added Capasa.

We will celebrate some anniversaries that will be an opportunity to look back at important pages of our history, and once again the CNMI Sustainable Fashion Awards that represent a valuable moment to verify fashion’s commitment to environmental and social sustainability. We are happy our calendar will last one day more, until Tuesday, considering that Milan Fashion Week is one of the most strategic moments for our country, with an important impact on the global fashion market,” the president added.
