Winter days call for heaps of layered clothing and everything from hot water bottles to hot chocolate to keep you warm.

Now, it’s time for that warmth to translate on your face.

This year’s autumn and winter fashion week runway shows in Paris, London, New York and Milan showed the rise of trends like soft pinks and striking cat eyes on the runway that can be interpreted in your daily wear.

Makeup is all about balance like playing around with bold colours and shimmering textures alongside subtle lip tones and rosy blushes.

If you’re looking to refresh your makeup bag essentials, Morgane Martini, Christian Louboutin Beauty’s global makeup artist, told Harper’s Bazaar, “Stay in your comfort zone but just switch it up a little bit. Instead of black eyeliner, go for a burgundy, grey or silver.

“That way, you can still keep it classic and subtle, while “building up to have more fun with makeup,” says Morgane.

If the cold weather has left you feeling uninspired, we’re here to bring some colour back into your world.

Here are a few tips and tricks to elevate your winter beauty looks:

1. Soft and subtle glam

A natural-looking blend of tinted moisturiser, soft and earthy eyeshadow tones, a brush of mascara and a nude lip is the easiest way to fake a full glam look.

2. Flushed cheeks

Blush should forever be a staple in your makeup bag since it adds that adorable and rosy look to any makeup you choose.

Pink is always a classic blush colour to go for but don’t be afraid to explore other fun colours like corals and oranges.

3. Colours of the leaves

Autumn and winter hues like reds, yellows, golds and neutral earth tones are a go-to for not just your winter wardrobe but for your makeup palette too.

Add a pop of colour like a red or orange lip or soften your look with brown and beige eyeshadow colours that aren’t too overpowering for any makeup beginners.

4. A touch of drama

Whether you’re a fan of the bold mob wife aesthetic or will forever be a clean girl, adding a touch of drama like a subtle cat eye, a smokey eye or that extra layer of mascara gives a chic elevation to your look.

5. Keeping it glossy

For all of our lip therapy lovers, a touch of gloss does wonders to brighten up your face.

A trend that will always live on is to line your lips with your favourite chocolate-coloured lip liner and finish it off with a shiny lip gloss.
