Annual Portville Arts, Crafts and Antiques Show Saturday at school

PORTVILLE — More than 2,000 people are expected to attend the annual Arts, Crafts and Antiques Show at Portville Central School Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The show gives area residents a chance for a head start on their Christmas shopping and raises thousands of dollars for the school’s Student Scholarships and Achievement Awards.

Tammy Baker, secretary to High School Principal Larry Welty, is coordinator of the show. She said more than 95 vendors have signed up to participate, which will be held on the first floor of the high school building — in the North Gym, classrooms and halls.

There is a huge variety of vendors, Baker said. They include handmade home decorations, personal accessories, quilting, jewelry, gifts, woodworking items, artwork, cosmetics, paintings, photography, kids toys and stuffed animals, recycled items, flipped furniture, pet themed items, books, soaps, alpaca items, purses, antiques and vintage items, and miscellaneous crafts.

There will be sweet treats like cupcakes by Crystal’s Confections, baklava by Wrapped by Dough, fine chocolates by the Chocolate Rooster/Rusty Rooster, giant chocolate cookies by the school cafeteria staff, gluten, dairy and egg-free baked goods by Rolling Scone Baking Co., and new this year is the Sweet Ride Donut vendor truck parked out front with craft coffees and hot and fresh mini donuts, Baker said.

Also for sale will be homemade soups, Philly cheesesteak, hamburger and hotdog meals, tacos in a bag, chopped salad, and the “Panther Plate” with chicken and biscuits, fries and gravy, to name a few.

Food served out of the concession stand to be enjoyed in the dining area located in the North Gym.

High school art teacher Wendy VanCuren has a vendor spot in the show where one item on display, a handmade child’s tepee, is the perfect reading nook. Many of her students will be exhibiting their works of art in Room 121 — the art room.

Students have prepared a variety of affordable items and copies of artwork made into notecards and more, VanCuren said.

Senior Jessica Daley is selling note cards made from her drawings and paintings. One note card is from a painting that won second place and a $7,500 scholarship in the 2021 VFW Auxiliary Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest. Another award winner is her photo for Leonard Bus Sales Co., depicting “A Day In The Life of A Bus,” which she is selling as an 8 by 10 inch print.

Other student artists who will be exhibiting handmade items include: Madison Jobe, Zya Degolier and Aurora Andrianoff.

Baker said that this year’s new vendors include:

Mark Weitzel of Portville, who will be selling his acrylic and mixed media paintings, 3D items, carved items, natural bookends, greeting cards made from photos he took from Portville, and other pieces of art.

Daniel Jordan from Allegany, who owns Dan Jordan Photography, will be selling wildlife prints and calendars.

Sally McCombs from Olean (Trades of Hope), will be in Room 103 selling handcrafted fashion accessories and home décor from around the world.

Deborah Ryan-Pelletier from Ellicottville, brings her vintage glass/blown milk crystal, miscellaneous paper and vintage jewelry.

Michael Weber of Cuba’s VW Farms will be selling hand-crafted soaps and lotions, herbal infused products and mohair yarn.

Paula Dineen (Boho Jewelry Box) from Little Valley will be selling bracelets and necklaces made of leather, copper and silver and stamped pewter dishes.

Among the returning vendors, Baker listed three, including:

Elisabeth Strong of Lizard Breath Beads in East Aurora has unique jewelry and decorative items using glass, stone and special findings. She creates all her glass pieces herself with special melting and adhesive techniques.

Teresa Genaux of Alpaca Creations in Emporium, Pa. will be displaying and selling many alpaca apparels.

Author Bill Robertson has written many novels he will be selling in the gym. They include local ghost stories, Bucktail War novels, and French and Indian War novels.
