‘A Touch of Americana’ highlights six events happening in Brunswick this week

The guest speaker for Brunswick Civil War Roundtable meeting will be Dwight Hughes, a U.S. Naval Academy graduate, author, and Civil War historian. His presentation is entitled, “The Naval Civil War in Theaters Near and Far.”

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7 at the Hatch Auditorium on Caswell Beach. Brunswick Little Theatre auditions

Brunswick Little Theatre will be holding auditions for the musical “Extra! Extra!” written by Frank Trimble, faculty member in the UNCW Communications department. Auditions will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7 at 8068 River Road SE, Southport. Please prepare and sing a short excerpt from any musical of your choice, do a cold reading from the script, and learn a short movement combination. ‘A Touch of Americana’

Brunswick Bands Inc. Southport presents its fall concert “A Touch of Americana” featuring the Brunswick Winds Concert Band with conductor Michael Stringer. The performance will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9 at at the Odell Williamson Auditorium, on the campus of Brunswick Community College, 150 College Road, N.E., Bolivia. Free admission, donations accepted.

Museum of Coastal Carolina’s Festival of Trees

The Museum of Coastal Carolina will host its fourth annual Festival of Trees Nov. 9-Dec. 1. Visitors can stroll through the museum and admire the enchanting and beautiful trees decorated by area businesses and nonprofits. Participants can vote and bid on their favorite tree. The Festival of Trees is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and noon-4 p.m. Sundays. The festival will be closed on Sunday, Dec. 24. Admission: $10 for adults, $9 for senior citizens and $8 for ages 3-12. The museum is located at 21 E. Second St. in Ocean Isle Beach. Details: 910-579-1016 or www.museumplanetarium.org.

Southport Concert Series

Bat Bennett will perform rock tunes at the Southport Concert Series Thursdays in the Park. The concert will be held at 6 p.m. Nov. 9 at Franklin Square Park, 105 E. West St., Southport. Chocolate and S’more food truck will be on site.

Holiday boutique in Southport

Holiday Treasures and Gift Shoppe is open now through Dec. 22 at Franklin Square Gallery in Southport.

Franklin Square Gallery in Southport invite the public to visit the Holiday Treasures and Gift Shoppe now through Friday, Dec. 22. Gallery members have handcrafted original ornaments, jewelry, accessories, glass and ink art, cards, paintings, pottery and more. The gallery is located at 130 E. West St. and is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Saturday.
