Anaheim Hills briefs: Help with holiday meals for others

The Canyon Hills Presbyterian Church Mission Committee is sponsoring a Thanksgiving food drive to help fill the food pantry for Casa Teresa.

Food items are being collected from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., Nov. 19 and 26, as well as during the Thanksgiving Eve Service at 7 p.m. on Nov. 22. And the community is encouraged to participate.

Specific items needed include: mac and cheese boxes, pasta, pasta sauce (alfredo and marinara), small bags of rice, canned chicken, canned corn, Cup-O-Noodle soups, crackers, cereal, pancake mix, pancake syrup, fruit cups, granola bars, ketchup, jelly and more non-perishable items.

Casa Teresa, which is in Orange, offers a loving home and safe environment for pregnant women in crises as well as programs and services to assist them.

Also, the community is invited to the Thanksgiving Eve Worship Service at Canyon Hills Presbyterian Church.

This special inspirational 7 p.m. worship service will offer an opportunity for gratitude and reflection for all worshippers. Godsend, the church’s contemporary Christian rock band, will provide the music.

Sing along with Handel’s Messiah

The 19th annual Handel’s Messiah Sing Along, sponsored by the Yorba Linda Arts Alliance, is planned for Nov. 26 in the beautiful East Room at the Nixon Library. It will feature two concert seatings, one at 10 a.m., and the other at noon. And the community is invited.

There is no charge to attend either concert, which are open to all ages. You are invited to come enjoy the music, or bring along your own music score to sing the Oratorio’s favorite selections, including “Hallelujah Chorus.” This Oratorio, performed by a 50-member chorus and string orchestra, is conducted by David Walterman and will inspire and lift up your spirits.

Those planning to attend are encouraged to wear Baroque/18th Century attire. Free admission and parking for the concert; however, admission to the Nixon Library is separate. For additional information, call 714-349-2581 or email [email protected].

Get in the holiday mood with Women’s Connection

All women in the community are invited to attend the Christmas celebration luncheon hosted by the Anaheim, Orange and Villa Park Women’s Connection on Dec. 11 at the Black Gold Golf Club.

Doors open at 10:30 a.m. for socializing and shopping from onsite vendors. Lunch and program follow at 11:30 a.m. McChel Ferrell will share her gift of song and a Christmas fashion show will be presented by Linda Banzuelo from Pretty Fancy. Guest speaker Karen Blankenship will talk about “The Power of Journaling.” The day includes hostess gifts, door prizes and more and concludes at 1:30 p.m.

Cost to attend is $32 per person and those wishing to attend, should contact Barbi Zipperman at 714-280-9062 by the Nov. 27 reservation deadline.

Shop the library for the holidays

Friends of Canyon Hills Library will host a holiday sale at its next Flash Book Sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 28 and 29 at Canyon Hills Library.

In addition to a variety of books at bargain prices, the sale will showcase a variety of Christmas books, jewelry and other holiday gift items. One of the highlights is an opportunity to purchase an entire set of a Department 56 Christmas Village.

Proceeds from the sale will benefit the many services members of the Friends group provides for patrons of the library branch. For additional information about the book sale, contact the library at 714-765-6444.

Locals on TV game show

Three Anaheim residents are contestants on “Let’s Make A Deal” episodes scheduled to air next week. Martha Franco will be on the Nov. 20 show, while Callie Hayner and Carol Pina are contestants on the Nov. 22 show. The shows air at 9:00 a.m., on CBS.
