‘I went online to look for workwear clothes and was gobsmacked by what I found’

If you’re a woman entering the corporate world for the first time, you may be worried about what to wear for an interview or for your first day on the job.

It’s important to make a good first impression. But if you are looking for inspiration on fast-fashion websites like Boohoo and PrettyLittleThing, you might want to be careful what you pick from the workwear section.

A woman has took to social media to warn people against putting all their trust in the category as some of the pieces are more “drinks with the girls” than office-appropriate. Jessica, who posts online under the username @jessica_holly, was left so baffled after spotting pink metallic shorts under the listing that she went down a rabbit hole.

She ended up finding several inappropriate outfits in the category and posted to social media to warn people about shopping online for work clothing. In the clip, which has gained more than 14,000 likes, she said: “These are just my opinions. Based on my experience working in corporate offices for nearly a decade.

“High-waisted metallic shorts for the office. I kid you not, these are categorized under workwear. Workwear immediately, no. Imagine? HR would have a field day. You’d be gone.”

She then spotted a cropped blazer and mini skirt co-ord, which was complete with diamonte fringe around the hem and along the sleeves. “I’m sorry. No,” she said.

“It’s lovely for a night out. Drinks with the girly-pops. Woohoo! No, not for the office. You cannot be walking around in a tasselled diamanté, cropped blazer and a mini skirt. In what world is this office appropriate?”

Under interview outfits, she found a patterned shirt and matching bandana, which she also slammed. “This is categorized under interview outfits. Interview outfits for what? Coachella,” she quipped.

“I mean, maybe the shirt on its own, but like the shirt and head scarf together.”

As the clip went on, she continued to find anything with a collar listed under workwear, including a glitter pantsuit and a backless waistcoat. However, she noted that some of the outfits would have been fine if the models were seen wearing something underneath them.

She joked: “Do not give the double-breasted meaning a different meaning. You know what I’m saying?”

TikTok users were left stunned by the listings as they took to the comments to give their opinions. One user said: “As a HR girlie, I can confirm we will have a breakdown if you wear any of these into the office.”

Another added: “My colleagues would think I’d had a breakdown if I turned up in this.” A third commented: “It’s not workwear it’s *WERKWEAR*,” while a fourth wrote: “The metallic shorts are killing me.”

Boohoo and Prett LittleThing have been contacted for a comment.
