Hydrafacial: Trying out the cutting edge one-stop shop for your skin in NI

Suitable for all skin types and concerns, think of it as a one-stop shop for cleansing, extracting and hydrating that offers instant results.

It can help address concerns like hyperpigmentation, fine lines and uneven texture.

I enjoyed a Hydrafacial at FaceTherapy NI on Belfast’s Antrim Road.

Having completed a consultation form, my therapist talked through the facial’s benefits, and with that, you’re lying down for an hour of skin needs being met.

After traditional cleansing, the therapist used a handpiece which gently applies suction on your face (this is in no way painful) before applying glycolic and salicylic acids. She then used the handpiece which offers a hydradermabrasion treatment across the face with Vortex-Fusion technology. It’s an unusual sensation, as she focused on areas of congestion (for me this was around my nose and forehead).

It was slightly stingy, thanks to the acids, and a little uncomfortable in terms of pain, but it quickly dissipated. I also felt my face flush and was worried how red I’d look by the end, but within minutes I could feel my skin begin to decrease in heat.

The therapist did check I was comfortable throughout, however.

The therapist then applied a blend of hyaluronic acid and peptides over my face, popped on an eye mask and then applied red light to the face for 10 minutes. This gives time for the hyaluronic acid to be properly absorbed into the skin – and, well, an opportunity for some shut eye.

Once the red light is removed, the therapist applied SPF to ensure my skin was adequately protected from the sun’s rays, and chatted through the facial’s many benefits.

When she handed me a mirror, I was pleasantly surprised at how glowy and healthy my skin looked.

Yes, there was a little redness – but more a flushed cheek effect than full-on tomato.

A few days on, and my skin still has that ‘clean’ feeling and feels smooth to the touch.

For me, the Hydrafacial feels like a skin reset – something from which to maintain good, regular skincare habits.

At £150, it isn’t the cheapest option, but something I would enjoy every three to four months. The results were highly impressive – so much so that I haven’t worn make-up since the facial. Win/win!
