Vancouver is home to a variety of cool, independent clothing stores. And Private and Co. is one of them.

Offering a mix of menswear pieces with a “hint” of Japanese and Americana influence, the Chinatown neighbourhood boutique features local brand designs to international finds. We caught up with founder Perry Lam to learn more.

Q: For those who aren’t familiar, what is Private and Co.?

A: Private and Co. is a boutique in the heart of Vancouver’s Chinatown, located at 83 East Pender St. We also have an online store that ships worldwide. We curate a selection of premium menswear and lifestyle goods, ranging from Vancouver to New York, to Italy, to Japan. Our mission is to bring the most stylish and highest-quality threads to the streets of Vancouver.

Q: What makes it unique?

A: We have one of the largest selection of Japanese Selvedge denim or heritage-made denim in Canada, some of which are exclusive to Private and Co., in Vancouver, including The Flat Head, Studio D’Artisan, Full Count, and Fortela. In-store, we also carry vintage homeware, emulating the experience you’d find from a classic curios store.

Furthermore, at the back of the store, you’ll discover Duffle Bag Store, a shop-in-shop that carries an extensive collection of deadstock sneakers and clothing.
