I’m Stealing My Grandma’s $9 Style Hack That Makes Putting on Jewelry a Breeze

My great-grandma was always someone I admired. She was witty, intelligent, kind, and didn’t miss a beat when it came to all things beauty and fashion. I remember sitting on the edge of her tub watching in awe of how she did her makeup and laced herself in all-gold accessories. It was always so impressive how quickly she was able to put on her earrings, bracelets, and necklaces before dashing out the door. She wasn’t above a good clip-on earring, and her secret for getting her necklaces on and off with no frustration was latching a magnet fastener to both ends of her necklaces and bracelets — genius.

This memory was recently brought back to the front of my mind when I was gifted one of her old necklaces with the magnet still intact after all these years. I decided I needed all of my bracelets and necklaces to have these magic magnets, so I took to Amazon to find something similar, and I came across Bonison’s 12-Pack of Magnetic Necklace Clasps that are a near exact replica of my grandmother’s — and it’s just .75 cents apiece. I immediately added it to my cart, and now I won’t wear my jewelry any other way.

The magnetic necklace clasp comes in a pack of 12 with six silver and six gold-plated clasps. It features two lobster claws on either side, which you attach to both ends of your necklace or bracelet, and a gem-lined ball in the center with a strong magnet, so it’s not easily pulled apart unless done intentionally.

I love that this magnetic closure makes taking my jewelry on and off a breeze. My grandmother and I both have naturally long nails, so undoing the teeny-tiny clasps took forever and would occasionally damage my nails. Now all I have to do is firmly pull the sides of the ball apart and it effortlessly separates. I’m also still able to adjust the length of my necklaces by securing the end of the magnetic clasps as far down as needed on the necklace or bracelet.

What I love most about this product is that it helps those with disabilities or motor dysfunction. My grandmother had arthritis in her hands, and this gave her back some independence when it came to putting on and taking off jewelry. And if you’re worried about it easily being snagged off, you’re in good hands — it takes a lot of effort when being pulled at and the chain would likely break before the magnets come undone.

Lastly, this is a great product for those who never take off their accessories because they hate dealing with the latch. It now takes seconds for me to take my necklaces off before going to bed or getting in the shower. I’ll never go back!
