Geisha Designs taps into the beauty of nature at Lakme Fashion Week

As thin as air, dramatic as cosmos, nurturing as the earth, supple as water and as passionate as fire- this rightly sums up Geisha Designs’ vision for their latest showcase at the FDCI Lakme Fashion Week.

Plucked right out of the arms of nature, ‘Elemental Symphony’ by Geisha Designs captures the beauty and the passion of all of nature’s elements into their silhouettes. It is almost as if Paras and Shalini went out on a stroll amidst the beauty of nature and came back with a collection in the making. Keeping their signature staples alive, Paras and Shalini raise the notion of unapologetic me or unapologetic you inspired by the surreal aspects of nature- earth, fire, water, air and cosmos.

“The core theme that we are doing is unapologetic you or unapologetic me and in the unapologetic me it is about a simulation of all my different moods. It’s a phase where we are in acceptance of our own completion and we are accepting all of five elements. This collection needed a fiery passion, it needed us to be very malleable like water, light as air and be open to everybody’s opinions. To be like Earth and to nurture our thought processes we worked on the muslins, to be just flashy and dramatic like Cosmos it was all of that that came together to put together this collection. And what is new that we bring to the table this season is the silhouettes are changing, for the first time we are celebrating the Indian shape it’s an hourglass shape- we are accepting the woman for her abundance. In the end what we really wanted was to make clothes that have something fun about them, something dramatic about them, something unapologetic about them and put forward a new perspective for ourselves and for the wearer” shares the designer.

The designer duo of Geisha Designs talk about how each element resonates with fashion…

Fire

“Fire for me is something which is not static it’s vibrant it’s moving it’s growing and the personality like a fiery personality. Or a woman who is more of a daredevil, she’s courageous she’s, she’s always exploring and she’s not a predictable person and we trying to interpret that with the theory of colours which are the reds growing into orange gold copper. With deep neutrals could be deep burgundy, deep copper colours and then they could be highlights of red oranges and gold that could come in and the personality that we would love to capture is a person who is more curious and adventurous by nature”.

Earth

“Earth for me is a space where everything grows- it’s rejuvenating, it heals, it’s always growing. It shows us beautiful multitudes, so we are looking at embroideries which are like surface level, very detailed out and textures which are rippled and crumpled and you know having textured effect to it as if it’s earth which is growing. The personality that we refer to with the earth is also more like a loving personality and the clothes would probably reflect that it would be a little more tamed down they wouldn’t be that adventurous in their silhouettes but they are just very luxurious in their rendering”

Cosmos

“Cosmos to for is something that gives us the feeling of hope. We always look at the skies when we are sad we always look at skies for the answers and the cosmos with its glittery mysterious, embellishment- it gives immense hope into our lives. So the cosmos we are interpreting with the deeper colours- the violet colours of the rainbow which is like the blues, violets, and pinks with a lot of glitters they will have the glitter of the stars here and there, and the silhouette would be more mysterious they would be sheers which will have layers on them”

Water

“Water is flowing ever, evolving accepting, but it’s a source of all the life, it is the backbone of all civilisations that’s the person who holds the communities together the people who are most giving and accepting they really find the ways out they are just like water they have pleasantness. This mood we are trying to interpret with shades of blue with cascading rippling flows of chiffons and organzas and trying out more like wet water look as if a wet outfit the garment has been made wet fabric that wet water look so looking at more glistening fabrics more like soft silks which are kind of the ripples and the wet look has been just frozen on the body”.

Air

“The last is the air. Air is something which is ever present everywhere we need it the most but cannot be seen. It can only be felt, the way it taps our cheeks, it is something which skin receptors receive it so this collection the air collection has to be very sensual it has to be something that touches us it has to look as if the clothes are flying to give a feeling of wind to give a feeling of air when we walk there has to be movement so that we can see air between them the clothes are sheer. The clothes are very translucent very crystal like with little bling on them. A lot of feathers which kind of move when we walk to give a feeling of lightness to give a feeling of air around it and to capture the feeling of a person who is just so nimble on their feet just so pleasant to be with”.
